July 22nd; 9am-11am: Home Irrigation & Heat Mitigation Workshop
The Home Irrigation and Landscape Heat Stress Mitigation Program educates participants on efficient watering practices and sustainable landscape strategies to help plants thrive during periods of heat and drought stress. Through hands-on learning and demonstrations, participants explore irrigation methods, water conservation
techniques, plant selection, mulching, and landscape design practices that improve plant health, reduce water waste, and increase landscape resilience in changing environmental conditions.
August 5th; 11am-12pm: Fall Vegetable Gardening
The Fall Vegetable Gardening Program provides participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in planning, planting, and maintaining productive cool-season vegetable gardens. Participants learn about crop selection, planting schedules, soil preparation, season extension techniques, pest management, and harvesting practices to successfully grow healthy vegetables throughout the fall season.
August 19th; 11am-12pm: Entomology and Arthropod Lab
The Entomology and Arthropod Lab provides participants with hands-on opportunities to study insects and other arthropods commonly found in gardens, landscapes, and natural environments. Participants learn identification skills, insect biology, ecological roles, integrated pest management principles, and collection and observation techniques to better understand beneficial and pest species and their impact on ecosystems and horticultural systems.
August 26th; 11am-1pm: Plant Propagation Lab
The Plant Propagation Lab provides participants with hands-on experience in the science and practice of propagating plants through seeds, cuttings, division, and other propagation techniques. Participants will learn proper propagation methods, environmental requirements, and plant care practices.
