New Commodity Fumigation Requirements

July 2024

  • Commodity Fumigants, such as Phostoxin, that are primarily used in grain bins and packaged as tablets or pellets have new requirements due to their inherent hazards.
  • Beginning in July 2024, all commodity fumigants will require a new Private Pesticide License Category to purchase and use.
  • An initial examination will be required to obtain and add the new category Z(CF) to an existing Private Pesticide License.
  • 1-hour additional recertification class specific to commodity fumigation will be required every 3 years to maintain the category after initial certification.
  • The commodity fumigation exam can be taken at any pesticide exam or online.
  • There is a $10 exam fee that must be paid at the time of the exam. Online exams have additional fees.
  • A study manual can be purchased online.

Additional commodity fumigation only exams are being offered at various locations throughout the state. These sessions will include a presentation about the new requirements prior to the exam. Please bring a photo ID, $10 exam fee, and a calculator. All commodity fumigation exams are open book.
