It is that time of the year! Time to start thinking about fresh strawberries and how you plan to prepare and eat them.  Fruit is important for our bodies and they provide needed nutrients.

According to MyPlate, the amount of fruit you need to eat depends on your amount of physical activity, your age, your sex, your height and your weight.  It is recommended that children 5-8 years old eat 1-2 cups a day.  Girls 9-18 years old eat 1½ - 2 cups a day. Boys 9-13 years old eat 1½ - 2 cups and boys 14-18 years old eat 2 - 2 ½ cups a day.

Nutrients are very important for the health and overall care of your body.  One of the positive aspects of eating fruits is that fruit has no cholesterol.  Eating fruit can help increase two important nutrients, fiber and potassium which are nutrients that many people do not get enough of in their daily diet.  Eating fruit as part of your daily diet is likely to lower your chances of some chronic diseases.

Eating fruit is good at any time, but especially when they are in season!  So grab your gallon bucket and head to a strawberry farm with your family! Be careful though, your children may eat more than they pick!
