Mobile Oasis Mobile Market – Bringing the Farm to You. Guilford County has many residents who live in USDA designated food deserts where fresh local produce is not easily accessible and/or affordable.  The Mobile Oasis Farmers Market is a collaborative opportunity to offer healthy, affordable foods to those who have SNAP/EBT benefits, as well as all others who wish to participate and make purchases with cash.

  • Location: Social Services Building, 1203 Maple St., Greensboro
  • Accepts: SNAP/EBT, Cash, Debit & Credit

Giving the Very Best: A Guide to Donating Nutritious Foods to Local Food Pantries – Join Sheri R. Vettel, Registered Dietitian with the Partnership for Community Care, to discuss the importance of donating healthy foods, including fresh produce, to those who need it in our community. Stop by to learn about The Partnership Pantry Healthy Food Bank Program and how you can take action to fight hunger and chronic disease in Guilford County. Sheri will be sharing a recipe featuring commonly donated pantry foods prepared along with delicious farmer’s market offerings.

Kids Story Time Summer Garden: Join us for books, rhymes, and a flannel board story about delicious summer fruits and vegetables. Ages birth – 5.

Try Healthy Food Taste Test – Brochures will be available about the Try Healthy SNAP-Ed Program, encouraging individuals to eat healthy and exercise more. A taste test of whatever fresh produce is currently available will be provided, along with the recipe.

Flowerpot Food – Growing Vegetables and Herbs in Containers, presented by N.C. Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Volunteers . If you have limited space, sun, or time – even a set of containers can be a wonderfully productive garden space. Grow some of your own vegetables and herbs to eat better and also save on your food budget! We’ll cover all the basics of the best ways to do it: with the right location, good timing, a good plan, and a little tending.

Kids Story Time – Totally Tortillas! In this program, we will read Gary Paulsen’s The Tortilla Factory, which celebrates the life cycle of tortillas and the farmers and workers who help them get from seed to plate. We will make tortillas and fillings from scratch and have a fiesta!

Pack a Picnic! – Join us for books, rhymes, a short film and a craft about healthy and delicious food fun in the outdoors. Ages birth-5.

Pot Luck Dinners – Join us for Local Foods Week by organizing and hosting a Pot Luck Dinner! Contact us at (336) 641-2417 if you are willing to host one of these events so we can advertise and share with the community. Share comments and photos with us through #guilfordlocal and #guilfordeats
