Kasie Raymann, Ph.D., Co-Director of the PCC, will be sharing her research on the impact of the gut microbiome (bacteria that live in the gut) on honey bee health. The gut microbiome of honey bees has been shown to be very important for bee metabolism, nutrition, behavior and development, immunity, and protection against pathogens. However, many environmental factors can alter the honey bee gut microbiome (e.g. pesticides and antibiotics). This presentation will focus on how disruptions of the gut microbiome can be detrimental to bee health and survival. Following the presentation, participants will be given a full tour of the new UNCG PPC. The facility is ADA accessible and there is plenty of parking (ADA parking is behind the building).
