Alamance County 4-H has a very active Youth Livestock Team that practices almost year-round. On July 29-July 30, 2021, four youth attended the State 4-H Livestock Judging and Skillathon Contests in Raleigh, NC. Alamance County 4-H entered one intermediate (ages 11-13) individual and one senior (ages 14-18) team in the contest. This is the eighth year that Alamance County 4-H has entered youth into the state contest. Top teams and individuals were announced on July 31, 2021, during a formal awards breakfast ceremony at NC State University. Some of the contest highlights include:

Quiz bowl team members Lane Whitfield, Aiden Kernodle, and Hope Andrews placed 2nd in the senior division. Skillathon team members Lane Whitfield, Aiden Kernodle, and Hope Andrews won 3rd overall senior livestock skillathon title for the contest. Their team placed 4th in identification/written test, 3rd in quality assurance, and 1st in evaluation in order to win the 3rd overall title.

Individual awards were given out to youth who excelled and placed in the top ten (for intermediate and senior divisions). The following youth from Alamance County 4-H were recognized individually. Aiden Kernodle: 5th in senior skillathon evaluation and 9th in senior skillathon quality assurance. Lane Whitfield; 4th in senior skillathon quality assurance. Hope Andrews; 6th in senior skillathon identification, 2nd in senior skillathon quality assurance, 2nd in senior skillathon evaluation, 5th senior skillathon overall individual, and 5th in senior sheep judging.

Hope Andrews also won the senior overall title belt buckle for the contest. This award is determined by combining scores in livestock judging, skillathon, and quiz bowl to determine an overall high scoring individual for the contest. Hope is the 2nd youth from Alamance County to win this prestigious award!

Additional individual accomplishments include: Joseph Allred; 11th in intermediate swine judging. Aiden Kernodle; 11th overall in senior skillathon and 11th in senior swine judging.
