Hello! My name is Andrea Sherrill and I am the new Family & Consumer Sciences Agent for N.C. Cooperative Extension in Catawba and Iredell Counties. You may hear me called the FCS agent for short, but what does that really mean?

In FCS, we view the family as the cornerstone of a healthy society. Our mission is to improve the well-being of the family through educational programs, influencing public policy, and helping families put research-based knowledge to work in their lives. Focus areas for the work in my two counties include Healthy Eating, Physical Activity and Chronic Disease Prevention, Local Food Systems, Food Preservation, and Food Safety. Each day serving as the FCS Agent in both counties is very different from the next! I am currently making it my priority to meet with county stakeholders and community partners in order to learn more about the current FCS related needs in both Catawba & Iredell Counties.

On a personal note, I was born and raised in eastern North Carolina, but have called this part of the state home for 20 years. I hold a bachelor of science degree in Nutrition and a Master’s degree in Nutrition Science. I am also a Registered Dietitian and licensed to practice in NC.

Prior to joining Extension, I was the corporate wellness director for Nutrition Healthworks, clinical dietitian for Iredell Health Systems Cardiac Rehab and Catawba Valley Hospital. I also served as an adjunct faculty with Mitchell Community College.

I enjoy spending my free time with my husband, Keith, and our three children, Adams, Everette, and Quincy.

As a new Extension Agent, I am excited to serve the citizens of Catawba County and will work to enhance where we live, learn, and of course, eat!
